I've been tanking off-and-on for over a year now. When dual specs came, it became my main spec. On my Death Knight. He's been 80 since November 2008. Aside from new raids and crazy achievements like Loremaster, I've accomplished everything I want to on him.
So last week I was staring at my character selection screen, and I noticed my Druid, abandoned long ago at a pitiful level 27. Huh. Forgot about him.
Bear form has always been the most interesting to me. I'm weird like that. I gave him up because I didn't like Cat, and I don't really enjoy any casters. But that was before the new cross-realm LFG. So I dusted him off, borrowed some cash from my DK, and changed his gear and spec from a DPS focus to a tank focus. It's definitely different, which is awesome. I think I'm getting a pretty good feel for it, but I'm getting mixed reviews from my groups. Today I had 3 people saying "get aggro faster" and "stop whining." I was "whining" about the fact that the mage launched a Pyroblast before I even reached the mob, but whatever. The next group, I had two people say I was the best bear tank they've ever seen. Of course these are PUGs, so the 3 "experts" who said they had 80 druids could be just as stupid and inexperienced as the 2 who said I was fantastic.
And that's where LJ comes in. I googled, and I read. Big Bear Butt, WoWwiki, Wowhead. "Thedailydruid" won't load. Nothing I saw made me feel smarter or better prepared, or convinced me that I'm doing anything wrong so far... But of course all that stuff is aimed at level 80. I'm currently 30 and 90%.
0/21/0 is my spec. I have BoA shoulders (PVP) and chest. Four blues, two of which are random dungeon rewards. I'm shooting for stamina above all else, and then Strength or Agility. I haven't decided which I should go for more, so I'm taking the cheaper of the two if I have a choice. I have no +Int or +Spirit.
Pull with FF, Maul as my rage dump. Swipe if there's more than 3 targets (tab-target glyphed Maul if 3). Demo Roar for AP reduction. Bash casters when in range, Feral Charge - Bear if I'm too far away. As the fight goes on, I spread FF to as many targets as possible, as much for the high-threat-no-rage as for the armor reduction.
Anything I could be doing better? I'm tired of feeling like I can't hold aggro without a 15 second lead.
